In the City of Basel Championship for the Golden Drum over 155 cm, Germany made a strong statement in the final competition of the day. Josch Löhden secured victory on EIC Schabernack, ahead of his compatriot Hans-Dieter Dreher on Vestmalle des Cotis. Third place went to Katharina Rhomberg (AUT) on Colestus Cambridge.
A total of nine pairs qualified for the jump-off, in which the Swiss riders were forced to concede defeat. The best-placed Swiss rider was Adrian Schmid on Chicharito 11 in fifth place. Barbara Schnieper on Licolle followed in seventh place, whilst Gaëtan Joliat on Chelsea Z finished ninth.
Josh Löhden was clearly delighted after his victory: “When you make it to the jump-off, you naturally want to give it your all. I had an incredibly good horse, which helps enormously”. Looking ahead to Basel, he added: “Basel was indescribable for me. This fantastic finish makes it all the more special – I’ll be delighted if I can return next year”.
Adrian Schmid’s summary after the course: “The plan didn’t quite work out, but it was still a good performance. Chicharito has had a long break – this was only his second competition and his first difficult jumping round. Overall, I’m very satisfied”.
